For women who have had this procedure done.Any words of advice on how to prepare for a colcoscopy?
Do you mean a COLPOSCOPY?? You would be referred out for this if you had an abnormal pap smear.
It is really no more involved than a pap smear. You take the same position, the doctor uses a speculum to view the cervix, they use a mild acid-solution (typically vinegar) to make the abnormal cells visible, take a few samples (this may cause some cramping, and maybe light bleeding), and that's it.
There's really nothing to do to ';prepare.'; Just like a pap, don't have sex for 48 hours prior, nor should you douche, and if you get your period, cancel.Any words of advice on how to prepare for a colcoscopy?
i had one a few years back. i was petrified. The preperation is alot worse than the procedure. They put you to sleep and to be honest you feel nothing.
I had to eat and drink laxatives, and all you can eat is chicken broth and clear liquids. It sucks...
Oh and be sure to stay close to a bathroom! You'll need it!
i think for me the worse is preparing for it. I had to have all this pills, . And it was...well not pleasant and a bit stressful. But once in the doctors office they sedate you. so i don't remember anything, so that was the easy part. Don't worry, you will be fine. You will feel kind of bruised for a couple of day's but the pain killers help. Good Luck!
i had a colcoscopy (aka colposcopy) 10 yrs ago. i was worried, of course, just because i had had an abnormal pap test which had led me to have this procedure. the best advice i can give you is to try and relax and not tense up. focusing on your breathing and taking deep breaths is a good way to do that.
the only after effects were some cramping (very mild for me, not even as painful as pms), and some spotting for about 24 hrs.
(note: i actually got to see mine being done because the dr had a tv cam on the end of the scope so i was watching the whole thing on tv in front of me . i am not sure i'd recommend it though because it's weird thinking that's taking place inside your body!!)
NOTE: The first person to answer this question obviously thought you were referring to a colonoscopy.
YOU MEAN COLPOSCOPY.....ITS JUST A LONGER PAP.
