What are some tips or words of advice for those who want to adopt?

I've always knew that I wanted to adopt, I would like some advice on how to go about it. I am single and would be a first-time parent, I have the resources and the desire to be a parent. Thanks. What are some tips or words of advice for those who want to adopt?
Can you not have your own children??

If you are going to adopt, think about adopting from your own country first. Too many children are being taken out of their own culture and people need to take that into consideration. All children have the right to be adopted. But think close to home on this one.

Good luck and God bless..................What are some tips or words of advice for those who want to adopt?
Go for it, there are a lot of parent less children out there that need loving homes.
You have a great heart to want to adopt. There are different avenues to adopt; in your own country or outside of your country. The adoptions that are outside the U.S., for example, take time and effort, not to mention money. Within this country (I am assuming you are American) you can hire a special attorney who deals with adoptive parents, contact an agency that handles adoptions (through the family court system where children have been in foster care and parents relinquish rights) or by private adoption when you find a mother not wanting a child (this can be though a Christian organization that helps mothers not abort).

Whatever you do, I caution you to do your homework, watch out for scams and please try to obtain as much information on the parents as possible (i.e., medical, psychological and emotional information that could be very helpful).

The ';adoption business'; has boomed in the last 20 years, which means those less honorable will charge a great deal and deliver less. But there are honest people who have good track records too.

I wish you blessings in your adventure to find the child right for you.
Adopting a child can be the most rewarding thing a person can do for a child, and the most loving act people can do for themselves. There are children all over the world who are in need of a loving stable family. It can be difficult to decide to adopt, a decision that takes many hours of discussion and soul searching. I say you should go for it but remember adoption is about finding the right home for a child. The interests of the child come first and last; the interests of the adopters are emphatically secondary.
i say go for it.

if you have the desire to adopt i suggest you go to an adopting agency and find out what you can do
just love them with everything youve got
I have nothing but encouragement for you. I am a single male and have been considering adopting for a long time. If race isn't an issue, I suggest adopting a baby girl from China.

I suggest doing a search on google...there is far too much information that one needs to know before adopting.

Be sure to:

-Get an idea of the highs and lows for different types of adoption, plus information on costs that might be incurred in independent adoptions.

-Prepare yourself and your friends/family for the Adoption Homestudy Interview Process

-If you decide you want to work with a private Adoption Attorney and NOT an agency, contact the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys or your State Bar Association for an adoption specialists.

-Know your options for international and domestic adoption

There is far too much information for me to list...just make sure you do your research. With the internet, you have a plethora of resources at your disposal. Good luck!
