Any words of advice for me in my bid to quit smoking!?

I currently smoke 20 a day and am planning to give up tomorrow. I know it will be hard but I am determined to do it this time. I would really value some words of support and encouragement as well as any advice, especially from ex smokers. I am actully really scared, weirdly!! Why am I so nervous about giving up something so terrible!?Any words of advice for me in my bid to quit smoking!?
ur prolly nervous cuz u know how hard it will be! dont worry, u can do it! my grandma used to smoke and for my dads 9th birthday, he asked her to stop smoking. she did. shes been smoke free ever since and is doing well! also, if you want, there are stop smoking aids at the store. but you can do it!!!Any words of advice for me in my bid to quit smoking!?
Congratulations for making a quit date! It was the best thing I ever did! There are a lot of websites that you can join where you will receive a lot of support from people who are going through the same thing (www.quitnet.com is one).

Mini carrots worked really well for me as well as going to the gym every day for the first few weeks. I used the gum for the really hard times, and I thought it worked quite well. I got hot sweats the first few days and a slight flu (not sure if it was related or not), but after a week, I already felt amazing and could tell the difference.

It is so nice and rewarding to be in a social setting and to realize that you don't need or want cigarettes anymore. However for the first few weeks I stayed away from all places and people that I would want to smoke with or around. The temptation was too great.

Also, my husband and I did it together, so it turned into a competition, as no one wanted to ';lose'; and have that first smoke. So if you have a good support system it will help as well.
its so hard to give up, but well worth it. I think the fact that you really WANT to do it is so important, because then it won't be a half-hearted effort (so many people do it because of pressure etc, without really wanting to quit). Also, smoking is such a social thing (i.e you still see a lot of ex-smokers standing outside with the smokers at pubs because of the camaraderie). Your GP will be able to offer you nicotine replacement therapy, but I think it mostly just comes down to willpower. Good luck! And well done for choosing to quit!
I think his name is Alan Carr, His surname is Carr. He wrote a book about giving up smoking and it is the ';dogs bollocks';.

It tells you about how you get hypnotised into smoking a cigarette. He tells you that cigaretts are NOT ADICTIVE, just a belief, a con you get drawn into.

In his book, he gives you all the weak points where you turn to nicotine to ';settle the wrongs '; in your life.

It makes you realise that a cigarette does not give you confidence, does not give you strength, does not give you courage, does not help you concentrate and does not calm your nerves.

In fact, it tells you that smoking kills your confidence, kills your strength, kills your courage, kills your concentration and kills your nerves.

Smoking doesn't help you ..... with anything!! Except emptying your purse into someone elses pocket.

HE reckons smoking isn't even addictive, It's all a con.

I reckon, if you give it seven days, and overcome the 'oxygen rush', you might as well save your money and take a holiday abroad to celebrate, or buy a new car!! ( Do the maths and work out how much you spend every year on tobacco, the last I knew was 拢1,500. Thats a dam good holiday, or some dam good Christmas presents for the family.)

Or.... you could just BURN IT AWAY!
It Takes strong willpower to quit, but also something to in some way replace this Hobbit with another one. I smoked for 35 years, from one Pack a day up to 3 packs a day while in the Marines,so believe me it was not easy until I made up my mind that the Cigarettes are not as strong as I. Make up your mind and take the money it cost you and enter a Good Tae Kwon Do School%26lt;or KARATE%26gt; and put your money where it does you good and not give you aHeartatack at an earlier Age..I am 75 years old now and in my 22 year of study and I go through 2 hours of workout twice a week and I hold a Black-belt in Tae Kwon Do--Believe me,it will do you good and for what Cigarettes cost today you can easily pay for a GOOD School-plus you will enjoy it. Entry Age is unimportant -I started with Age 57 and I plan to continue till the Lord stops me. If you have Family invite them ,too . Good luck to you in your fighting this Battle which can only be won by YOU.
The thing about nicotine is that it is as much a mental addiction as a physical one. The mental addiction will never be gone, though you may be able to suppress it. Some people replace it with another habit (such as chewing gum), or quit it cold turkey, or use things like nicotine patches or gum. You'll have to experiment to find out what works best for you, and then don't give up even though it's hard.
There is not doubt that smoking is one of the worst habits on the planet if not the worst. There are many numbers and other alternatives that you could try to stop. On my website I have a blog that is talking about what a lot of countries are starting to do to try to cut down on the level of smokers

Good on you for trying. A friend of mine downloaded a list of the changes your body goes through as you quit, so it helped keep her motivated as she could see that the body was getting rid of the poisons in cigarettes.

Edit: Try this link to see how your body gets better:
