Any help or advice will be great! My MOS will be 11X Infantry. How long is training (BCT %26amp; AIT combined)? thanks!Leaving for Ft. Benning on Monday for Basic Training, any words of advice or help??
oh my god those other answers are scary. you need to raise you hand to show the drill sgts you are motivated and a good soldier. Don't stare them down either because if they think you think you are a badass they will pick on you all day. remember, they can make you do push ups ALL DAY LONG!!! don't act like you know it all and just keep quiet and to yourself, but show them you are willing to work. you CANNOT hang out with them no matter what, that's against all regulations!!!! So don't count on that. no NCO would be willing to risk their career to hang with a PVT. just remember, these 8 weeks will be the hardest thing you do, ater that it's over. you can make it through, good luck and thank you for serving!!!Leaving for Ft. Benning on Monday for Basic Training, any words of advice or help??
Yes, pay attention, stay motivated, keep your mouth closed, and ears open. Above all have fun...it's a blast!!!!!
When I went through Basic Training for Infantry soldiers was six weeks. Advanced Infantry Training was seven weeks, an added week for bayonet training. for a total of thirteen weeks.
P.S. the 11x means that you can still be picked as an Infantryman (B), MorterMan (C), or Antiarmour (H) that last one 11H you will learn how to fire the TOW II missile antitank weapon. Because; you do not have the designation set in stone they will assign your designation when you get there according to need. Good luck Solider.
Your basic training is 10 weeks long and your AIT time depends on what exactly you will be doing. My nephew went through Ft Benning last year and is currently at Ft Sam Houston for supermedic training. You will have a camelback canteen on you at all times at Benning. This is because the heat and humidity cause alot of health problems if you arent prepared for them.Your drill instructors know to look for certain signs of heat stroke/exhaustion.Other that that just listen to the instructors and everything will be fine.
just remember it is a mind game. You could be the fastest runner in the world and the Drill SGT will still tell you that his grandma can run faster. Just do what they say, if you do that then dont worry there will be plenty of guys screwing things up that will get more attention. Dont take anything personal, the Drill SGT have a job to do.
btw, dont talk smack about the drill sgt, my dad could hear everything the guys said in the rooms with some intercom thing, then he ran in and scared the crap outta some guy who called him an a*hole. lol
uh..first and formost, they may ask you to fight!..I know that sounds silly, but better to tell you now, than be like many who go into shock when they realize they're not just in this for the tuition money.....next, volunteer or not, they're gonna do what they do,just roll w/the punches...remember some fine men(your family included probibly)got through it..you can too!...As with most things in life, you can make it a good thing or bad thing...just remembering the nature of the job isn't like working at the corner drugstore, there are many life/death issues to face. Whatever your MOS,just strive to be the best one on the post. And last but not least.....silk stockings are still the best last step in shining boots!
relax and be friendly toward all but make your friends carefully, volunteer for nothing like my dad told me, except to be the unit chaplain, and read your bible daily rededicating your life to the Messiah.
David in Jesus amazing grace, and i sent you a msg too
Here are a couple of things to check out if you haven't seen them already.
Good Luck.

Lots of Army Basic training mostly slide shows.
Stay proud!
Remember, millions of us care about you and have respect for you, no matter what you read on here some times.
Addition: Brandon may have something. NAVY stands for Never Again Volunteer Yourself. :)
I agree with first poster if the drill sgt ask for a volunteer.Just pretend like you are eager to volunteer.
secondly dont take your puinishments seriously because the drill sgt do a lot of things for amusement
Good Luck, Ft. Benning is a **** hole. Was there a few months ago..
YES! DO NOT VOLUNTEER FOR ANYTHING!!! Trust me on this one. If your Drill Instructor asks for volunteers, do not raise your hand.
Good Luck
let me know how it went
Keep you're mouth shut and your ears open and you will be fine.
Good luck! And America loves you!
Don't take any crap off of your Drill Sergeants.
If you stare them down, they will realize that they are dealing with a real badazz and will let you hang out with them on weekends.
